This beautiful coastal community consists of approximately 6.5 square miles and cradles a fixed population of approximately 34,000 people, but on a beautiful summer day, the total population of visitors, workers and residents can be well over 100,000 people. The city is home to five star resorts, a harbor, county beach parks, a state beach, and a high school that contributes to the diverse activity within the city boundaries. Dana Point was incorporated in 1989 as a General Law city and operates under a Council/Manager form of government. Deputies respond to over 17,000 calls for service per year in the city. The city also staffs a school resource officer, community support deputies, motor officers, and contributes to the South County Directed Enforcement Team.
