Deputy Sheriff Trainee (DST) is an entry level non-sworn training position. DST's are required to attend a paid 26 week P.O.S.T. Certified Sheriffs Training Academy, plus a 2-week training academy. In the Academy, DSTs will develop the minimum skills required for entry into a Law Enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff. The DST will be trained in California Criminal and Civil Law and the Orange County Sheriff Department's Policies and Procedures. Promotion to Deputy Sheriff I is based on satisfactory evaluations, graduation from the Academy and Academy Staff recommendations.
