The Volunteer Probation Officer (VPO) Program offers a unique opportunity to be part of the exciting and challenging field of criminal justice. VPOs are enabled to perform duties similar to those of the department's Deputy Probation Officers. Participants will gain personal satisfaction, work experience and an opportunity to develop new skills in an exciting and challenging field. Volunteer Probation Officers work with and under the supervision of Deputy Probation Officers. The Volunteer Probation Officer program offers a unique opportunity for citizens to be involved. VPOs are provided the opportunity to assist in the following areas:
Investigation of adult and juvenile cases
Field monitored caseloads
Making home, work and jail visits
Telephonic compliance checks
Victim contacts and collateral information
Residence and employment verification
Requesting record checks
Working with adults and youth in drug treatment programs
Minimum Requirements
21 years of age
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
U.S. Citizenship
Commitment to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours per month for one year
