  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Be compassionate and sensitive to the needs of adult learners
  • Be prepared to learn new teaching techniques, new ideas, and new experiences
  • Pass a background check

Tutoring Sites, Materials, and Schedules:

Tutoring is scheduled according to your convenience in a public location anywhere in Orange County. Most pairs meet at their local library. Ten of the 34 OC Public Libraries branches, as well as the city of Anaheim, have established literacy centers with private tutoring space, computer access, and an extensive collection of literacy teaching materials. Register today!

Our Tutor Training Program

Before they begin working with their learners, our tutors receive 15 hours of basic training to introduce them to our tutoring techniques and philosophies. Trainees receive comprehensive workbooks and other materials to assist with their tutoring, as well as an opportunity to practice various teaching techniques as demonstrated by the instructors. The course is conducted by professional trainers certified by ProLiteracy America.

After the basic training, tutors receive ongoing technical support, specialized training, and individual assistance as needed to help their learners achieve their reading and writing goals. In addition, tutors have the opportunity to network with each other to talk about their experiences and share tips and ideas that they have used with their learners on the path to success.
